Roadsides and public spaces in Essex, NY
Pick up orange trash bags for free from the Essex Town Hall and The Whallonsburg Grange and bag as much litter from roadsides and public spaces as you can! Pro tip: coordinate with your neighbors to maximize your coverage. Bring the bags to the drop off spot at the Hub on the Hill or the Essex Transfer Station when you're done. Dropoff is free of charge!
Note on safety: Participation is “at your own risk”. Wear a safety vest or bright clothing for visibility & work gloves for protection. Watch for ticks! DO NOT attempt to pick up needles, medical waste or anything that could be hazardous or pose a risk (gas containers, for example). Please report these items to the police.
Take a selfie with your full bags and tag us on Instagram or Facebook at @essex_initiatives for a chance to win a special Earth Day Raffle prize: A pair of tickets and two box dinners to the Essex Theatre Company's opening night performance on June 29th!
Bonus - stop by the Pink Pig Cafe and show your photo for a surprise treat!
